Matt first joined Cullens in 2005 after completing degrees in both engineering and law at Queensland and New South Wales universities. In his practice, Matt acted for clients in a range of technical fields including medical devices, security systems, architectural hardware, control systems for un-manned vehicle guidance and navigation, and a range of other mechanical and electromechanical technologies. His day to day work involved assisting clients with the processing of patent, trade mark and design applications and the management of IP portfolios throughout the world. He often also advised in relation to commercial matters such as IP sale and licensing, due diligence and documentation recordation, infringement disputes and other contentious matters. Matt was also a regular speaker at commercialisation and business start-up mentoring seminars.
Matt then spent a number of years working in the London office one of Europe’s leading patent and trade mark practices. Whilst in London Matt acted for a number of the world’s largest multidisciplinary electronics, communications and technology companies. Matt then rejoined Cullens upon returning to Australia in 2011.
Matt is used to dealing with clients of all sizes ranging from private individuals and start up businesses to large national and multinational corporations. As a result, he understands how client’s needs vary according to the size and nature of their business, and how this affects the way in which they can best leverage value from their IP.
