Prior to joining Cullens, Blake was employed for ten years in the Australian Trade Marks Office. Blake is a former Senior Examiner, Principal Examiner and Examination Team Leader. During his time as an Examiner, he assessed several thousand trade mark applications. As an Examination Team Leader, he was responsible for the management and mentoring of twelve other examiners.
Blake’s most recent role was as the Assistant Director of Trade Marks Hearings & Oppositions. In this role, he worked on a range of legal and policy issues and was also responsible for authoring significant parts of the Trade Marks Office Manual of Practice and Procedure as well as creating training modules for trade mark examiners.
Blake also has significant experience with geographical indications. In 2009, Blake was the Australian representative at the WIPO Asia-Pacific Symposium on the Protection of Geographical Indications. In
addition, he has been heavily involved in work surrounding the recent amendments to the Australian
Wine and Brandy Corporation Act and Regulations.
Blake obtained his legal qualification from the University of Canberra and the Australian National University, and his trade mark attorney qualification at the University of Technology, Sydney.
